Compare the Ralph & Co Chatsworth orthopaedic memory foam dog bed with the Richmond nest dog bed. Find out which suits your dog's sleeping style and support needs.
Quick answer
Choose the Chatsworth if your dog needs orthopaedic memory foam support for joints and recovery; choose the Richmond if your dog prefers curling up in a cosy, secure nest.
Support vs. snuggle: what each bed prioritises
The Chatsworth is built around an orthopaedic crumb memory foam mattress, which contours to your dog's body and helps distribute weight evenly. That makes it a strong choice for older dogs, breeds prone to joint issues, or pets recovering from activity.
The Richmond, by contrast, is a nest-style bed designed for dogs that like to curl up in a secure, enclosed space. Its bolstered edges provide a sense of safety and warmth, but it does not offer the same level of orthopaedic support as the Chatsworth.
Material and craftsmanship differences
Both beds are designed in Great Britain and handcrafted in Europe, so you get premium craftsmanship either way. The Chatsworth features supportive virgin fibre-filled bolsters and premium beige upholstery-grade fabric, which adds durability and a tailored look.
The Richmond also uses premium materials but focuses more on cosy comfort than heavy-duty support. If you value a bed that feels like furniture, the Chatsworth's upholstery-grade fabric may appeal more; if you want a plush retreat, the Richmond delivers that.
One trade-off to weigh: the Chatsworth's memory foam and firmer bolsters provide better support but can feel less 'huggy' than the Richmond's nest shape. The Richmond's open nest design is inviting but may not hold up as well for dogs that prefer to sprawl.
Chatsworth vs Richmond: the trade-offs
- Support level: Chatsworth offers orthopaedic memory foam for joint support; Richmond provides plush comfort without the same orthopaedic structure. If your dog has joint issues, prioritise the Chatsworth.
- Sleeping style: Richmond's nest shape suits dogs that curl up; Chatsworth's open design works for dogs that stretch out or need easier access. Match the bed shape to how your dog actually sleeps.
- Durability and style: Chatsworth uses upholstery-grade fabric for a more durable, furniture-like finish; Richmond focuses on cosy comfort with a softer aesthetic. If you want a bed that doubles as decor, choose the Chatsworth.
